questionable ink formula June 30, 2010 Roman Pennington I tried this ink in 4-5 cartridges and it all leaked out. I do not think this ink formula works for my Canon cartridges.
Inkjet Refill Kit for Canon Pixma ip3000, Canon BCI-3e May 15, 2010 Michael J. Schmidt (Columbus, Ohio) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased the Dataproducts Inkjet Refill Kit on the advice of Consumer Reports. (This is for my old Canon Pixma ip3000 printer, using the Canon BCI-3e inkjet cartridges.) Dataproducts' kit was the only one that CR claims is easy to use, doesn't leak ink, etc. After reading the instructions I found that I was unable to depress the valve where I was supposed to insert the refill needle. I contacted customer support and they immediately answered the phone; they emailed me some further and more specific instructions for my particular cartridge. Still no luck. I phoned again and they suggested I return the kit for a refund. Since shipping was a substantial fraction of the total cost, I decided to try my luck with some more serious DIY ideas. I had picked up the idea of using a glowing hot paper clip to poke a hole in the cartridge & to fill it that way. I poked this hole on the part of the cartridge that is the hollow chamber that holds the ink (NOT the side that is filled with cotton), on the side that faces up when the cartridge is installed in the printer, under the label which I had peeled up. On one cartridge I used tape to seal the port that lets the ink out (the hole about the size of a pencil eraser that faces down when the cartridge is installed.) In another I used the original orange plastic cap that I had saved. Then I filled the empty part of the cartridge till it was about 80% full and I took my time, taking 2 - 3 minutes to fill it. I then sealed the little paper clip hole with a drop of glue from my hot glue gun. I let it set in my stainless steel kitchen sink for about 20 minutes to allow it to finish dripping and to allow the pressure within the chambers to equalize. (Both cartridges leaked regardless of how I had sealed the port.) Voila! both printed perfectly.
This will save me a lot of money and I'm happy I bought it. However I wound up using none of the tools that were included in this kit, only the accordian shaped plastic ink bottles with the attached hypodermic needles. If you could buy these elsewhere without the tools you'd save a couple of dollars. Also be forewarned that these cartridges leaked like crazy during refill (though not in the printer). So make sure you do this job in an area where you don't mind a mess or can easily clean it up. Also be sure to take your time putting the ink into the cartridge and give it 20 or more minutes to rest before using it. With that in mind, you can save a lot of bucks and get great looking prints on the Canon Pixma ip3000 if you don't mind a bit of a hassle.
Does what it's supposed to do April 2, 2010 H. Clay 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The ink filled the cartridge quickly because of the side-dispence design of the tip. The black ink is a little darker than the original cartridge. For general use it is perfect. I have used ink refills before and this is the easiest and least messy I have used.
Saves me so much money! March 13, 2010 Hannah 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I got this for my HP60 cartridge, and I can't believe that IT ACTUALLY WORKED!!! As far as I can tell, my ink cartridge is essentially a black, plastic box with a sponge inside, so refilling it is as simple as pouring ink (SLOWLY) into the hole that is under the label, and then letting it sit around until the sponge soaks it up. That was it. Some advice for the first time you do it- Wear rubber gloves and work over a sink! Also, have some newspapers next to you to set it on when you're done. You will spill ink all over. I thought that I surely had screwed it up when there was ink leaking from every possible place, but then after I put tape over the holes on the top and let it dry for a while, it worked just fine. The instructions were a little confusing, but I found stuff online that was useful in explaining it for my particular cartridge. I found this page [...] which is useful for the first sheet that you print. Don't let the printer people rip you off on ink ever again. It's so cheap and easy to refill it yourself!
saved me a ton of money! March 11, 2010 Steve McClaren 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This thing has saved me a ton of money. Easy to use and it works great. I find that I still have to replace cartridges after maybe 5-6 uses, but that's a lot better than one! Was a bit nervous the first time I used it, after hearing horror stories, mostly from people at the ink cartridge store, but I found it to be easy and painless. Once you get the hang of it, it's also very quick.
